3 - Latin and S. American Sceneries
TKPK - St. Kitts, Robert L. Bradshaw Intl.I truly enjoy flying in the Caribbean. In my FS98 days it was a nice way to fly and see the islands come into view and look for the airport. This was in the pre FSNavigator era. I used to learn to fly there and test my flying skills. Now you can get beautiful FS sceneies. I use the FS Antilles group sceneries, mesh, landclass and airports, all from Montserrat to Tobago. All coastlines, mountains and terrain are corrected and made as is in real, a true enjoyment.
My round the world flight takes us today to St Kitts. Robert L. Bradshaw is a good example of the work of the productive scenery creator Christian Delblond who has made almost all FS Antilles airports and others in the Lesser Antilles. See more in my Antillean Airlines and Airport Adventure image gallery. ATC gives us Rwy 25 which means we have to make a turn towards Nevis and a left turn to come into final to Basseterre. Beautiful weather, as usually. A My Travel Airbus 330 is embarking passengers to go back to Europe after their holiday, a couple of freighters are parked on the apron. Soon Caribbean Star and LIAT Dash 8:s appear and a Fedex Boeing 727 is landing. This time we only stay here to fuel our 737 up and plan our flight before heading to Brazil over Montserrat, Guadeloupe and Barbados.
SBFZ - Fortaleza, Pinto Martins, BrazilOur round the world flight is going westward which means we gain time (which we lose at the Int'l Date Line when we get there). That also means we can fly day flights on most sectors. For the St Kitts to Fortaleza sector I choose to plan a night landing. So we approach over Fortaleza coming in to land on rwy 13 at Aeroporto Internacional Pinto Martins at about 9 FM. This scenery is made by Alvaro Volponi. There are several good makers of Brazilian airport sceneries. Most notable is Gustavo Luna, whose Aracaju, Belem, Boa Vista, Macapa, Port Velho, Teresina and other airports I frequently fly to. The Real Environment upgrade really puts a good light at all airports at night. So also at Pinto Martins even if a nice yellow apron lighting is featured. Airlines at Fortaleza are Brazilian Bra, GOL, TAM and Varig, international TAP, TACV and United.
SEQU - Quito, Mariscal Sucre International, EcuadorNow this is a challenge. Quito is at 9200 FT, you have to watch out for mountains on the western side of the airport and high terrain south, north and east of it. As we approach from the south we get rwy 17 so we have to make a left pattern coming in to land from the north watching out for high terrain on the approach path. I come in a little high but get a windshear which throw me off course and down a bit so it adjust for a good landing. Some AI-traffic is having problem coming in all to high and therefore have to go around.
At Mariscal Sucre the traffic is domestic Tame, Vip and Icaro and international Tame, COPA, Avianca, LAN, Grupo Taca, American, AirComet, Continental, Delta, Iberia and KLM. When we are ready to go to San Jose the take off roll is looong as we are at 9200 ft and we lift off and make a very flat climb over the Quito houses south of the runway.
The scenery is by Unknown, no info in the zip although it says Demo. There must be a full scenery package out there.
MROC - San Jose, Juan Santamaria International, Costa RicaThis is a very nice scenery by Rodrigo Gonzalez. Juan Santamaria Int'l is home of Grupo Taca, which makes up for most of the traffic. Our approach today made us use rwy 25 where the terrain is a little high. My GPWS called out lot of warnings. But it's nothing like the south final to Tegucigalpa. Try that sometimes, it's very interesting. The terminal at Juan Santamaria International is very modern and nicely depicted in the scenery and has moving jetways if you want to.
MKJS - Sangster Int'l, Montego Bay, JamaicaNow we are entering Melichar land. Bill Melichar is a prolific scenery creator, his sceneries are scattered all around the Western Hemisphere. Nice, clean, colorful airports in the Caribbean, the U.S.A. and in the Pacific. Very nice going. As we come in to land at Montego Bay the weather is a bit on the cold side and cloudy and not with the usual free sight of the horizon. It's fall also in the Caribbean.
The traffic is apart from Air Jamaica, mostly American and Canadian airlines, some European regular and charter operators and a couple of the Caribbean airlines. This is a big tourist area.
MMMX - Benito Juarez, Mexico City, MexicoSo now on to Mexico. As we approach the very high situated Mexico City the weather gives us a surprise; clear skies, no haze, no heat. Hmmm, usually it's hot, hazy and bumpy to land at Mexico City. My guess for the reason is that the REAL real time is in the middle of the night, so it can be cooler and the smog is gone. I think maybe. Benito Juarez is again a creation of Bill Melichar. Nice and enough for the illusion of this airport.
Traffic is AeroMexico, Mexicana, Click and several Latin and North American airlines as well as the big European airlines.
