5 - South East Asia Sceneries

WMKK - Kuala Lumpur International, Malaysia

It's nice to land at KLIA, Kuala Lumpur International Airport. We've been flying for six hours from Cairns, Australia to land in South East Asia. KLIA is a very good example of the new breed of Far Eastern airports; clean, efficient, lots of space, simple to navigate; Changi in Singapore, Chep Lap Kok in Hong Kong, Soekarno Hatta in Jakarta, Suvarnabhumi in Bangkok. KLIA is made by Jouvarn Gultom and Khalid Rizwan. Nice job! It's dusk when we land and there is a reddish light.

Traffic at KLIA is dominated by Malaysian. Almost all Far Eastern and Pacific airlines as well as most intercontinental airlines are landing here or will in the near future; Malaysia is a growing economy.

VTBS - Suvarnabhumi, Bangkok, Thailand

I just had to do it. Fly to the new airport in Bangkok, Suvarnabhumi, since I finally have got it to work in my FS9. VTBS is not a default airport and had to be added and all AI airlines had to have their routes changed. And it worked but he runways dissapeared when landing. How I tried to fix it.

After installing the VTBS scenery by SiamAvsim it all worked. I truly enjoy coming here. The airport is beautiful, has moving air bridges which swings towards your aircraft after docking, cargo is loaded, stairs come up to the doors, several vehicles crowd around you, it has airport buses running. The windows of the buildings are semi transparent. This is a stunning likeness to the real thing, as I tried to take photos from inside when I transited there last spring; you just can't get good snapshots from inside the terminal.

The atmosphere and ambiance of the scenery is a striking resemblance of the real thing. And it's very frame rate friendly too. Way to go, SiamAvsim.

Traffic at VTBS is dense; Thai, Asian, Pacific, U. S. and European airlines crowd the runways and aprons.

RPLL - Ninoy Aquino Int'l, Manila, Philippines

A two and a half hour flight towards the east take us to Manila in the Philippines. The Ninoy Aquino airport lies in the middle of town, is made up of three international terminals and one old, domestic. We park at NAIA international terminal for all international airlines except Philippines Airlines who uses the Centennial terminal. Terminal three is not open yet, lots of disputes and problems surrounding this one. But in Lowil Fred Espada's scenery it's in use. The old domestic terminal acts as an airport in itself with ICAO code RPL1.

The scenery is very dense and creates minor frame rate hits but works sufficiently all the same on my computer.

Airlines are Philippines Airlines, Air Philippines, Cebu Pacific, Asian and Pacific and several large intercontinental airlines.

There are several nice sceneries of other Philippines areas like Bacolod, Butuan, Davao, Iloilo, Legaspi, Tacloban and Tagbilara. All lesser known places but interesting to fly to.

RJBB - Kansai, Japan

This is interesting, a manmade island harboring a large international airport. The Japanese have to save precious space on land, so they put the air traffic at sea. Good idea to reduce air traffic sounds from inhabited places too. This is Osaka's main airport Kansai.

The scenery is made by Kazuhiro Miyazaki. The files are very well structured (good if you want to remove parts, for better fps). It's really a FS2002 scenery but works fine in FS2004. You have terminal interiors, the bridge to get ashore is displayed well but you have to tweak the AFCAD to make it work properly. But then you have a great airport to include in your busy flight schedule. The second runway, that should be open now, is not displayed though since this scenery was made in 2002.

Traffic is mostly Japanese; Japan Airlines, ANA but Asian carriers as well as large intercontinental airlines are also represented on the Dep/Arr boards.

VHHH - Hong Kong International

Landing at Kai Tak in Hong Kong used to be an exciting experience with its curved approach and sometimes spectacular landings. Now we have to make do with Shek Lap Kok, a manmade island for air traffic, as our flight's originating point this afternoon.

The new Hong Kong airport is a great place to visit though, both in real and in FS9. HKG is the winner of the Airport of the Year 2007 Awards. Thomas Kwong also makes a good representation of the airport. (Thomas Kwong made THE Kai Tak scenery as well.) It's a large scenery and takes its toll on your computer. But you can remove static aircrafts and/or vehicles if you want to. Good. VHHH works fine on my computer system.

Traffic at VHHH is most intercontinental and Asian carriers. Hong Kong is a large trade and tourist hub.

VABB - Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai, India

Usually the air in Mumbai is filled with smoke or very hazy. So even today. We land at a smoky airport with only 3 nautical miles sight. Chhatrapati Shivaji airport is a very nice creation by Matthew Ministry and Manu Mistry. I truly enjoy a visit to VABB. I have also created some new low cost low fare Indian airlines for FSTraffic; Jet, Indigo, Spicejet (and more to come) to crowd the Indian skies and airports. Check out the FSTraffic download page.

Traffic at VABB is apart from the multitude of Indian airlines, lots of intercontinental air carriers, European, Asian, Middle Eastern, American, African...

Next stop: Dubai
