6 - Middle East and Africa Sceneries
OMDB - Dubai, United Arab EmiratesTraffic at Dubai is heavy and growing at a furious pace. There is to be a new airport, but so far we use the "old" airport. It's situated in the middle of town and you can see all the new buildings, towers and all sorts of landmarks that is coming up in the city all the time. The scenery is created by Olivier Bochu. Nice that it is, one strange thing about it though is the BWIA Tristar parked at one gate and a couple of static 757's. And they can't be removed... Pity.
FSIA - Mahe, Seychelles islandsAfter a nice four hour flight from Dubai we enter the Seycelles islands via Praslin island and make a curved approch passing Mahe town to land at FSIA rwy 13. Traffic is Air Seychelles and some other airlines. There is shuttle traffic to the outlying islands with Twin Otters. I must try this in the real sometimes. The scenery is made by Colin Penney. He released very conveniently an update to his scenery with new mesh and landclass and air fields for all Seychelles islands right before my flight. This time we only stay to fuel up and on we go to Africa.
FVHA - Harare, ZimbabweThis is a nice airport, in real and in Matthew Ministry's scenery. The political situation in the country is lousy with a demented dictator and in real I would never go there. But in the beautiful world of Flight Simulator all is well. The runway is one of Africa's and the world's longest at 15.000 ft. There are some old sheds and buildings and an old domestic terminal and a new state of the art international terminal with air bridges. Here we park for a couple of days. Traffic is Air Zimbabwe and a few other African airlines. Not much European nowadays obviously.
Included in this scenery is also a rendition of Victoria Falls airport. Fly there, it's beautiful.
HKJK - Jomo Kenyatta Int'l, Nairobi, KenyaThis is a simple add-on by Jetways and Terminals, adding air bridges to a default terminal and a couple of hangars, basically. The airport is situated middle in town at Nairobi. Traffic is mainly Kenya Airways and some other African and European airlines.
On to Beirut, planning a flightpath that takes us over Khartoum in Sudan and over Abu Simbel and Luxor in Egypt, over the Aqaba Bay and over Israel and finally for a northern approach to OLBA.
OLBA - Rafic Hariri Airport, Beirut, LebanonThis airport is situated beautifully on the shore of the Mediterranean with the city surrounding on the other sides. Landing from the south is special because of high terrain. Here come Middle East carriers, European and some Asian as well. This scenery by Michel Karam and the Lebor group is called OLBA2002 indicating that it is a scenery for FS2002. But it works just fine for FS9 although you have to adjust the altitude of the airport so that AI-traffic don't plough deep in the ground. The JABBgl program takes care of that easily. This is a beautiful piece of work with nice terminals, buildings and even a nice terminal entrance side and parking. Recommended. Check out the airport's official web site. They use the scenery to show the buildings...
Next stop is the Greek island of Mykonos. Go there...
DAAG - Houari Boumediene Int'l, Algiers, AlgeriaNow this is one the best of all freeware sceneries for FS9. Kudos to Riad Ghenim. It is beautifully layed out, accurate buildings, terminals, apron and moving air bridges. Do have a look in the FS9 Around the World Album and then just download it and fly to northern Africa. Just do it. Here comes most Middle Eastern airlines and several European but the mainstay of the traffic is Air Algerie. I have, ehrm, done a repaint of Air Algerie's Boeing 737-800 for Traffic 2005. If you want to download, fine, but you don't have to. But if you want to. You can, you know. Just go to www.traffic-2005.net. If you want to. You know.
This concludes the visits to African and Middle Eastern airports. Now we only have a couple of European on our tour. Next stop is Nice.
